MEET ETHAN

Ethan was born at full term after a very difficult pregnancy. When he was about 18 months old it became clear to us and other family members that Ethan was falling over a considerable amount, it was rounded off by an accident in Portugal which required him to have stitches in his forehead after only arriving at the resort a few hours before.

After lots of hospital appointments and extensive tests it was confirmed by the John Radcliffe Hospital that Ethan has Cerebral Palsy.

Ethan works hard every day to carry out tasks the rest of us find easy to do, but everything Ethan does requires double the amount of effort to anyone else. Ethan wears a splint on his legs and takes medication three times a day. Ethan has suffered many MRI scans, Lumber Puncture, Serial Casting and Botox on his leg.

We want Ethan to have a full active life and we are always looking into ways to ensure this happens for him in his future.

Since Ethan was diagnosed, we have researched a life changing operation called SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) which they carry out in the St Louis Children's Hospital, St Louis, Missouri and now at the Frenchay Hospital in Bristol. The results have been completely life changing for both children and adults who have undergone the procedure.

Ethan is an independent walker although unstable on his feet. This procedure will enable Ethan to participate in activities we all take for granted with our children such as riding a bike, playing football, running and climbing. Whilst Cerebral Palsy is not a degenerative condition, Ethan's mobility will deteriorate and become more noticeable in years to come.
