Zoë's Place Baby Hospice- Liverpool

Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice is a very special charity. We focus upon providing specialist palliative and respite care for babies and small children from birth through to 5 years old. Our bespoke one to one care is for babies who suffer with life limiting or life threatening conditions and this is provided by registered nurses, play leaders, physiotherapists and other care specialists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We can care for up to 6 babies at any one time and we are currently supporting on average around 50 families per year.

Our facilities are designed provide a ‘home from home’ for our special babies and through the use of multi-sensory environments and learning through play, our nursing staff can ensure that our special babies live life to the full.

A large proportion of our care is in providing vital respite for parents and carers, who would otherwise be unable to cope with their full-time care responsibilities and we offer ongoing activities and support that involve the family as a whole, recognising that very serious life threatening conditions impacts on all family members.

Our staff also support parents coming to terms with their child's illness and in some cases the loss of their child. Our bereavement suite offers a private and comfortable space in which parents can remain close to their child and begin to come to terms with their loss and we also provide professional counselling for parents and extended family at any time.

The care we provide however comes at a cost which continues to steadily increase. Currently, it costs our charity in excess of £3,800 per day just to maintain our current level of care and we can only achieve this through the ongoing support we receive from the community.
